Thursday November 20th - A Byrne/Eno Blog-sclusive!
David Byrne and Brian Eno have just released Everything That Happens Will Happen Again, and if you haven't heard it, you are lucky to click onto the blog today! I have just the thing for you.
We're linked to a stream of the new album, so you can listen to the full album anytime.
And even better, we're giving away some AUTOGRAPHED copies of the new Byrne/Eno disc here.
Cool?
Totally cool.
Some details about ETHWHA... many of the songs were written on acoustic guitar. The musicians exchanged Eno's demos with lyrics and vocal melodies completed by Byrne over e-mail until 14 songs were recorded, in a process Byrne called "very slow," in part because of the strict division of labor they had between writing instrumentation and vocalization.
Byrne's recollection of the writing process:
"I recall Brian mentioning that he had a lot of largely instrumental tracks he'd accumulated, and since, in his words, he 'hates writing words,' I suggested I have a go at writing some words, and tunes over a few of them, and we see what happens... In a nutshell, Brian wrote most of the music, and I composed most of the vocal melodies and lyrics, and then sang them."
David Byrne will be embarking on a worldwide tour to support the album. He's not coming to the Northwest until February, but when he does, watch out! If you need your Byrne fix, his brief Northwest routing includes:
Wed 2/18 Seattle, WA - Benaroya Hall
Thu 2/19 Spokane, WA - Martin Woldson Theatre at the Fox
Fri 2/20 Vancouver, BC - Queen Elizabeth Theatre
Make sure to click here and register for a SIGNED copy of the new Byrne/Eno disc... because who knows, it may be another 27 years before they produce another CD!

Wednesday November 19th - Bjork and Yorke Team up for Iceland
Bjork, the iconic Icelandic musician and actress has recorded a new song with Radiohead singer Thom Yorke. The single was composed specifically to encourage active support for the Náttúra campaign, which aims at collating and providing sustainable and eco-friendly options suitable for Iceland, and generating alternative ways to utilize it’s natural resources. People will be able to submit their ideas on the website for sustainable green workplaces for Icelanders.
According to Björk, “It is now more important than ever before to emphasize a respect for nature…I believe that profits, technological advances and working together with nature can all go hand in hand. None need to be sacrificed at the expense of the others.”
Having witnessed the splendors of Iceland firsthand, I can totally get behind any cause that aims to preserve its natural beauty. Everyone should see Iceland…glaciers, volcanos, waterfalls, hot springs, geysers and super shaggy goats EVERYWHERE. Here are a couple of pics of the most magical place on Earth.
Is it any wonder Bjork wants to protect it?

Tuesday November 18th - So Hi So Low Indeed
This morning on the air on my weekly Ask The MD feature on The Marty Riemer Show, I introduced a brand new tune by a very unique artist named Matisyahu. Matisyahu is a Hasidic Jew who throws down some big beats while raising our consciousness with big ideas. I knew playing the tune "So Hi So Lo" would kick up a little commotion...and boy (or should I say Oy?) did it ever!
Bill: "It’s absolutely great. I find his music irresistible and unique." Shannon: "so high...so low ;)"
Emily: "I think that song sounds like a bunch of rocks and the singer were thrown in the dryer!"
John: [Hip Hop] - "Not on my mountain!"
