More than 5,000 Washington residents become victims of identity theft each year and Washington remains in the top 10 states for per capita victim reports. Identity thieves obtain personal information used to commit these crimes in many ways--including low-tech methods such as mail theft, rifling through trash, or stealing a wallet and high-tech methods such as hacking and phishing.

This is a problem our law enforcement cannot address on its own--just like you protect your home and your car from theft, you must also take steps to protect your identity.
